The Baptismal Committee is probably one of the easiest committees to serve on, but it is also one of the most rewarding and joyful. You will receive a blessing as you witness believers submitting themselves to this act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour.
Duties include calling the candidates during the week before their baptism to tell them what to expect, filling the baptistery and turning on the heater, preparing the changing room by making sure it is clean and neat, making sure clean towels and robes are in the room, and taking the towels and robes home to wash before the next baptism. Committee members are supplied with a Procedure Manual explaining the entire process.
Qualities that are desirable are good people skills and the ability to pray with the candidates to calm their nerves before they go in front of the congregation to give their testimony. Our goal is to help create a positive and memorable experience for this celebration.
This committee, consisting of at least two (2) men and two (2) women, shall make all necessary arrangements for the ordinance of baptism. This committee shall render such assistance to the Senior Pastor and to the candidates as is necessary to make the ordinance comfortable and meaningful. This committee shall be responsible for keeping the changing rooms’ neat, safe and clean, supplying clean robes and towels, and assuring the baptistry is heated before a baptism and emptied afterward.
